Black Ice Series

Concrete, Fiber Optics, Electronics,
Oak Wood Base
72" x 36" x 12"

This sculpture, carved to appear as if the stone were stacked in rotating layers, has been cast in concrete combined with mineral dyes and black sand to give it the appearance of basalt.
Its surfaces have been polished then sandblasted into shallow relief with organic textures.

A spiral accretion of light grows out from the center, changing color and rhythm, gradually filling the surface. At times, web-like geometric lines form on the surface, sometimes superimposed over the spiral, in various combinations of color.

The animation here shows only a few seconds of the light program that takes days to repeat. See Statement-Sculpture for more information about this series
