Black Ice Series

Concrete, Fiber Optics, Electronics
Polyurethane over Stainless Steel Base
72" x 36" x 12"

This sculpture, cast into angular forms suggested by the spring breakup of lake ice, has its surface carved into organic forms. Like fossils in stone or perhaps late season flowers caught in the ice, similar organic shapes move across the surface in varying colors and rhythms. The dark gray dyed concrete has inclusions of black sand that give it the appearance of granite.

The animation here shows only a few seconds of the light program that takes days to repeat. See Statement-Sculpture for more information about these works.
